Rekodo, situated within Sydney’s harbourside Barangaroo House – itself a recognisable architectural standout of central Sydney – provides a memorable and unique guest experience. Charged with updating what was formerly the waterside fine diner Bea, nowhere else brings together the central elements of food and music like Rekodo – the delivery of the space very much built on layering the Japanese-inspired offering without pushing the narrative too far. On entering the upstairs space comes an immediate understanding and appreciation of the interior thematics in play – a clean use of light timbers and Japanese curtains and black leather booths; the space opening to the light and the water just beyond.

A central DJ-stage outs the musicality involved, a stacked bookcase of records a fun and practical nod that adds to the playfulness and overall accessibility of what is an innovative and immersive offer – designed to move across a given day, with a given audience and effortlessly transforming from a standout and elevated lunch destination to a darkened evening ‘spot’ of music and ambiance.
